Berlin has a proper place for everyone – be they singles, couples or families with children. The go-to district for family-friendliness is Prenzlauer Berg, but so are Pankow or Weißensee. While, in these areas, to live with children in a spacy flat in an older building is not exactly cheap, they feature colourful quiet roads for kids to play in, clean playgrounds and international day nurseries. At a more moderate rent, families can find homes in the districts of Neukölln and Wedding. Steglitz-Zehlendorf, while not exactly “hip”, has more parks and less hustle and bustle. It offers a good choice of family-friendly housing and an excellent infrastructure. If you require child safety features, the choice is more limited. Things get much easier if you bring your own safety equipment and child-friendly interior. The main thing is for the flat to be located in a child and family friendly environment, complete with playgrounds, parks and a kindergarten round the corner. Children should live where they feel welcome. Unfortunately not all landlords are pleased to accept tenants with children.
